Friday 13th photos

Number Nine now has a name. Her name, or rather initial, is J. :D

We went for a ride today, since it was so nice and sunny. She desperately needs a new chain and tyres. Since finding out about the chain I haven't ridden much, however the petrol prices inspired me equally as much as the weather today.

Remember a few months back when the Treasurer looked into petrol prices, they'd been kept artificially high even though the price of crude had dropped for a long while? Some person at a petrol company made noises about 'if we don't drop prices immediately, we won't have to raise them immediately, we can absorb some changes...'

Well, guess what? Prices stayed artificially high for many months, then yesterday when the price of crude rose, overnight the price at the pumps did. The sheer greed of these people makes me want less and less to do with anything petrochemical. So in spite of the very dodgy chain, out we went on two wheels instead.

A few weeks back I was changing a flat front tyre and had a feel of the axel. The hub felt like a handful of marbles in a tin can. Distinctly uninspiring. I reco'd it at the shed, and today was the first time I'd taken her out since. New bearings and a cone make quite a bit of difference. And I was very pleased that I'd done the job myself.

I took the opportunity to grab a couple of wands and take a few photos. It's lovely around here. Perfect riding weather. I really must get that chain done tomorrow.

This is the duck spot where Mum and I ride to on occasion and feed the ducks. They're all so fat from bread and some of them will eat from your hand.

The sign says "no diving, no drinking, no swimming" Kind of obvious these days... But two years ago the water was nearly as high as where J is in the pic.

All along the creek path there are fantastic old trees. Gnarled and weather worn and beautiful. There's a pair that look like mother and daughter.

Another pair look like old sisters.

So that's my Friday the 13th.
